YouTube is the second most visited website in the world, with more than 2.5 billion users as of April 2023, and people spend countless hours on YouTube.

YouTube was launched in 2005 as a platform for sharing user-generated videos, such as video blogs, tutorials or original series. The site has grown rapidly, with a reported 100 million video views per day and more than 65,000 uploads per day after just one year. By February 2020, more than 500 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, up from 24 hours of content uploaded every minute in 2010.

It has also become a platform where YouTube users can gain immense popularity on their own and establish themselves as superstars in their respective fields. From cooking shows to streaming, videos on YouTube cover every conceivable topic.

The most popular type of video on YouTube is the music video. "Songs", "music" and "karaoke" are all among the top 20 search queries.

As of February 2023, there are more than 114 million active YouTube channels. Indian music network T-Series has the largest number of YouTube subscribers in the world, with 237 million users following the channel. YouTube Movies ranks second, with approximately 163 million subscribers.
