Analysis of WeChat Users and WeChat Pay
WeChat is known as Weixin in China. It is one of the messaging apps created by the
Chinese company Tencent.
It is currently the fifth most popular social media
app in the world. Most of the top social networks with more than 100 million users
as of January 2023 originated in the United States, but Chinese social network
WeChat has also gained mainstream appeal in its respective regions due to its local
context and content.
In 2023, WeChat's global monthly active users (MAU) are expected to reach 1.671
billion. An increase of 13 million over 2022, an increase of 8.43%. The number of
users is expected to reach 1.93 billion by 2025.
The age of WeChat users is
fairly evenly distributed across age groups. As of March 2022, about 22% of WeChat
users in China are between the ages of 31 and 40, and another 22.7% are over the age
of 51.
WeChat has many popular features, especially WeChat Moments, where
WeChat users can update their status and share photos and videos with their friends.
According to WeChat usage statistics, most WeChat users use WeChat to view WeChat
Moments.
WeChat is a multi-purpose platform, most often referred to as a
communication software tool. At the same time, it is also a comprehensive program
whose feature set includes mobile payment and social media modules.
There
have been attempts to ban the app (mainly former US President Donald Trump) due to
concerns about its Chinese ownership. However, today, under the leadership of the
new Biden administration, the United States is keeping a distance from the WeChat
ban.
Tencent has always planned to make WeChat a major player on the
international stage. Online payments feature heavily in current e-commerce trends.
Since WeChat Pay is a popular payment method for Chinese tourists, it has entered
other countries.
By 2023, WeChat Pay is expected to have 1.133 billion
active users. By 2025, WeChat Pay users are expected to grow by 16.32%, or an
additional 185 million users.
