Tools for AI plagiarism checking

ChatGPT has brought convenience to many people's work, but also created problems for another group of people. It has made data integration, copywriting, and coding easier, but it has also lowered the threshold for plagiarism. Not only are teachers more likely to receive plagiarized essays from students, academics more likely to have their research data plagiarized, and open source intelligence investigators more likely to receive spam interference.

Here we will introduce 7 plagiarism checkers that detect user input and determine whether the content is generated by AI tools such as ChatGPT.

1. OpenAI Text Classifier

OpenAI Text Classifier is a fine-tuned GPT model based on OpenAI that calculates the likelihood that the input text was written by a human or an AI by simply entering 1000 characters. However, OpenAI also makes it clear that the tool is not fully reliable and should not be used as the primary method for recognizing text.

2. GPTZero

GPTZero not only analyzes texts that are likely to be written by AI, but also calculates the perplexity and burstiness of the text.

*Perplexity is a language model measure of the complexity of a text, where humans tend to use random phrases and a higher perplexity score indicates that the text is more likely to be written by a human; burstiness is a measure of the complexity of each sentence, where the AI generates more uniform sentences and humans tend to combine long and short sentences.
