How to extract videos from Facebook?
If you are looking for an easy way to manually download public and private videos
from Facebook for OSINT without requiring them to be high quality videos, please
read on.
Before we begin. I must emphasize that accounts used to extract
videos without Facebook's permission are not allowed and will be locked by
Facebook's anti-extraction mechanism. Moreover, the use of "sock puppets" on social
media platforms and in official settings (law enforcement/government/military) is
often strictly regulated by law. Investigators should pay attention to their
national legislation before conducting any activity on social media.
Next,
we will use a video from a Facebook page as an example of manually extracting video
content from Facebook.
1. Open the target video in a new tab. Click anywhere
on the video screen to jump to a new tab.
2. Force the browser window to
access it in Facebook's mobile basic mode (mbasic). To do this, all you need to do
is replace the URL of the video from
"https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=3594845180838354" to
"https://mbasic.facebook.com/watch/?v=3594845180838354". By doing this, we're
requesting the basic mobile page for this video.
3. Click anywhere on the
video screen to jump to a new tab.
4. Right-click and click on "Save Video As", or just Ctrl+S to download the video as an MP4 file.
Using this method will be very simple, but the problem is that the quality of the video will be very low. In most cases, this may not be ideal for investigators.
